Passing ECL Exams

Examinations taken until 31 July 2026

Until 31 July 2026, candidates could register for a complex exam or for a written or oral partial exam.

A written partial exam was considered successful if the candidate achieved at least 40% in both Reading and Writing, and the average of the two skills was at least 60%.

An oral partial exam was considered successful if the candidate achieved at least 40% in both Listening and Speaking, and the average of the two skills was at least 60%.

A complex exam was considered successful if the candidate achieved at least 40% in each skill (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking) and an overall average of at least 60%.

Successful candidates received either a complex certificate or, if only the written or oral partial exam was passed, a certificate for the corresponding partial exam.

Examinations taken from August 2026 onwards

From August 2026 onwards, candidates taking the complex ECL exam must achieve at least 60% in each module (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking) in order to pass successfully.

If a candidate registers for a complex exam but achieves at least 60% in only one, two, or three modules, they will receive a certificate for the successfully completed modules within that exam period.

Candidates who take modules separately also receive a certificate for each successfully completed module.

If all four modules are successfully completed within one year, candidates may request a complex certificate. The one-year period is calculated from the date of the first exam.
